In the sixties, apart from the previously founded Memorial of Nadezda Petrovic, the Gallery started to develop the program of periodical exhibitions and the establish its own collection as well as to present the permanent display. The basic fund represents the specific picture of its exhibiting activity, that is, its determination to follow the contemporary streams Yugoslav and Serbian art later. The sixties promote the phenomenology and optics of the painting, the entry into the sphere of “pure” art which results in the works of spiritual lyric abstraction, abstract expressionism of “enformel”. In the seventies, the interest in the object and its form through restoration of figuration, hyperrealism, objective art and conceptualization prevails. In the fine art expression of the eighties emotions dominate as well as new expressionism which means the return to the big format, wide and gestual stroke of the brush and intensive color. The nineties are characterized by the return to the poetics of figuration, by the eclectics of styles, by the involvement of technical innovations in art and by the blend of media. The exhibitions presenting such events have been occasions for the purchase of the pictures and completion of collections which entirely depict the exhibiting politics of the Gallery and at the same time give the survey of all the events in the life of fine art of the previous decades (especially after 1960). Almost all the tendencies and mainly all the distinguished authors are represented and according to same experts even same paintings which are considered as the best creations of certain authors (Beta Vukanovich, Ivan Tabakovic, Pedja Milosavljevic, Vladimir Velickovic). Among the paintings in the collection Nadezda and her Contemporaries there are works belonging to expressionism (Nadezda Petrovic), plenerism (Beta Vukanovich), intimism (Vidosava Kovacevic, Ivan Radovic), magic realism (Zivorad Nastasijevic). In the collection Yugoslav paintings in the second part of the 20th century there are works of poetic realism (B.Prodanovic, M.Celebonovic), new expressionism (M.Konjovic), geometric abstraction (S.Celic). Also, there are many works which belong to the figuration of various periods (V.Velickovic, O.Ivanjicki, V.Stanic, A.Lukovic Lukijan, B.Damjanovski, K.Boksan, M.Stancic, M.Marinkovic Cile, M.Blanusa), works of objective art (A.Djuric, M.Vergot) and conceptualism (M.Djordjevic). A certain number of works of authors who worked in this area (Z.Vulic, S.Zoric. S.Jarakovic, D.Cirkovic. B.Risimovic - Risim and others) should also be included. The permanent display of the works from these two collections has the concept of giving a better view of the events that happened in this area, and also to show the complete performance of the development of Yugoslav and Serbian art.
